Turning Growth Goals Into a Clear Action Plan
Cravings Gelato is a locally owned gelato shop in Banff, Alberta, serving handcrafted gelato made in small batches using traditional Italian techniques and quality ingredients.
Owner Charlynn came to Becca Jules & Co. looking for support with growing the business. While she had no shortage of ideas and opportunities to pursue, finding the time to consistently work on growth initiatives alongside the day-to-day demands of running the shop was a challenge.
Together, we focused on creating a strategy that would increase local awareness, attract new customers, and build relationships with businesses that could become future wholesale partners.
The Challenge: Making Time for Business Development
For many small business owners, growth initiatives often get pushed aside by the day-to-day realities of running the business.
While outreach, networking, and partnership development were all areas Charlynn wanted to focus on, they required dedicated time for research, organization, follow-up, and relationship management. Between production, customer service, inventory, and operations, it became difficult to give those activities the attention they needed.
Without a consistent process in place, promising opportunities can easily remain ideas instead of becoming conversations.
The goal wasn't simply to send more emails or distribute more flyers. It was to create a practical growth strategy that could generate awareness, build relationships, and create opportunities without adding more to an already full plate.
The Journey: Creating More Opportunities for Growth
Becca Jules & Co. partnered with Cravings Gelato to develop a growth strategy focused on two key areas: increasing visibility within the local community and building relationships with potential business partners.
Rather than relying on a single marketing initiative, we focused on a mix of community awareness and relationship-building efforts designed to create opportunities from multiple directions.
Community Awareness: Meeting Customers Where They Already Are
One of the first opportunities we identified was increasing visibility among people already spending time in and around Banff.
To support this effort, we created targeted flyer campaigns aimed at two distinct audiences: industrial workers and cyclists travelling through the area during the busy spring/summer season.
The objective was simple: introduce more people to Cravings Gelato and encourage them to stop by the shop. By tailoring the messaging to each audience, the flyers felt relevant and intentional rather than generic.
Lead Generation: Finding the Right Opportunities
Not every business is the right fit for a partnership.
Instead of casting a wide net, we focused on identifying organizations that aligned with the Cravings Gelato brand, customer experience, and growth goals.
This research included hotels, lodges, cafés, tourist attractions, wedding venues, and other hospitality-focused businesses throughout the Bow Valley and surrounding region.
By taking ownership of the research process, we were able to provide Charlynn with a curated list of opportunities while freeing up valuable time that could be spent running the business.
Outreach & Relationship Building: Starting Meaningful Conversations
Once prospective partners had been identified, we developed and executed a structured outreach strategy designed to introduce Cravings Gelato and open the door to future collaboration.
Over the course of the project, we connected with more than 30 organizations, including local businesses and wedding venues throughout the region. Multiple rounds of outreach and follow-up helped ensure conversations remained active and opportunities didn't get lost in crowded inboxes.
Like any meaningful partnership, the goal wasn't an immediate sale. It was to start conversations, build relationships, and create opportunities that could continue developing over time.
Looking Ahead: Building a Stronger Foundation for Growth
Through strategic outreach and follow-up, Cravings Gelato was able to connect with businesses and organizations that aligned with its growth goals, including luxury hotels, wedding venues, tourism operators, and other hospitality-focused businesses throughout the Bow Valley.
This included opportunities to get in front of well-known brands such as the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and begin conversations around potential partnerships.
Several meetings were booked, new conversations were started, and a pipeline of qualified opportunities was created for Charlynn to continue developing through in-person relationship building.
By taking lead generation, research, and outreach off her plate, we helped create opportunities for growth while allowing her to stay focused on running the business and creating exceptional gelato.
